Metallic finishes have been a huge trend in the wedding world for the past couple of years, and as with all good trends they have filtered down to the edibles too.
There's just something about copper that has a modern and slightly more industrial feel than silver or gold, but yet still has warmth and a touch of luxury.
Unfortunately real copper is not actually safe for eating, but there are ways to still include it in your cake design. Firstly, you could opt for an edible lustre, this could be added in a painterly brush stroke style, such as this design from a wedding at the beautiful Forest Side Hotel....
Or if you did want to go for the real deal, a dummy tier can be included in your design, meaning it can be safely removed before serving to your guests. If you did need more portions of real cake, a "kitchen cake" could be added and then cut and served at the same time as the main cake, as the couple choose to do who had the below design at their wedding at The Villa, Levens.
I would love to talk to you on how to include metallics in your dream wedding cake design, just send me a message via the contact form here!
